Mental health Legislation

How the law affects you and the treatment you receive.

Knowing and understanding how the law affects you and the treatment you receive can really help you get the support you need, protect your rights and make your voice heard.

Here you will find the 2013 and 2015 Mental Health Acts and information about Advance Statements (which are something you can write in advance about how you’d like to be treated should you become ill and struggle to express your views).

VOX Scotland is a national membership organisation, open to all people in Scotland with lived experience of mental health difficulties. We represent the views of our 500+ individual, group, and associate members to politicians and health professionals – making sure that Scotland’s laws and mental health services reflect their needs and interests.
